inSocialMedia.com

Starting this new post with an idea to discuss, share and consolidate the social-media (blogging, wiki, social-networking) policies and procedures being used by various organizations:

I will start with danielhong's blog-post where he has given references of IBM's policies, Harvard's guidelines and some other great examples. http://www.danielhoang.com/2009/02/21/social-media-policies-and-pro...

Some observations in the case of IBM:

1. The set of guidelines is created by a bunch of folks and just a small team of 1/2 members driving the initiative.
2. The guidelines continue to change as new tools/techniques in social-media keep coming.
3. IBM doesn't force anyone to blog or use a Wiki but at the same does talk about the tremendous impact that the online communities have created.

Which links/examples of social-media policies are you aware of? Lets share these and build a repository for Insocialmedia members.

Hi Andy,

Very true ! Although we're talking about these fools as freedom-of-expression engines, but in the organizational context you need to have complete clarity over what can be expressed and what can't.

I think there've been numerous causes where employees have been fired because of mis-use of this platform or at times they've been too bashful about their concerned organizations on a public platform.

Perhaps this is why, we see extensive usage of dis-claimers by all the bloggers :) What you need to remember though is 'disclaimer' isn't an escape route.

The biggest thing we've seen is having a policy of positive interaction only. You can get on and engage with customers, but don't be out there trash talking, or bashing under our company name. It only makes sense, but it's all part of having a policy. Some people don't think before they tweet or write, and can get in quite a bit of trouble in a very SHORT time without some guidelines.
